content page

•This is my final piece of my contents page. I kept it very simple and the colours are contrasting together to make the background more appealing to readers. the page is very classy and simple

school magazine

•THIS IS THE FINAL PIECE OF MY FRONT COVER. I WENT ON TO TAKE PICTURES OF YEAR 7’S USING THE LIBRARY BACAUSE THEY JUST MOVED INTO THE SCHOOL AND THEY ARE ALREADY LEADING BY EXAMPLE. THE MAIN REASON I TOOK THIS PICTURE WAS BECAUSE I WANTED TO ENCOURAGE THE OLDER YEARS TO ALSO MAKE FULL USE OF THE LIBRARY JUST LIKE THE LITTLE ONES ARE. IT WAS VERY SIMPLE FOR ME TO DECIDE WHICH NAME I GIVE MY MAGAZINE BECAUSE IT SURROUNDED MOSTLY ON THINGS GOING ON WITH THE SCHOOL SO I WENT I AHEAD WITH USING THE FRANK F LIFE FOR EVERYTHING IS IN THE TITLE AND IT ALSO STANDS OUT. THE COLOR OF THE MASTER HEAD AND STRAP LINE ARE VERY DARK AND DIFFERENT BECAUSE THE BACKGROUND IS VERY COLORFUL FOR I LOVE MIXING COLORS TOGETHER SO IT JUST HAD TO BE VERY COLOURFUL AND BRIGHT. THE ACTUAL DESIGN OF THE MAGAZINE WAS BASED ON MY OWN IMAGINTION BECAUSE I LOVE READING MAGAZINES SO IT WAS A GREAT DEAL FOR ME TO DESIGN MY OWN DIFFERENTLY. WHEN IT CAME TO MY PUFFS, THEY WASN’T TOO MUCH SPACE SO I MADE THEM EASY AND SIMPLE. THE PICTURE BELOW IS FOR THE SHOE AID AFRICA-I DEMOTRATED MORE USING A PICTURE RATHER THAN WORDS BECAUSE IT’S MORE EFFECTIVE. EVERYTHING ON THE COVER SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

Masthead research

•We started of by coming up with the name Inner Soul for our music magazine. We chose this because our music magazine is a R&B themed magazine. We then went onto the website http://www.graffiticreator.net/ to create the style of text, we then fiddled with the features to create this style, we then chose 3 different colours and chose several features and this was our final outcome.

•We then decided to change the colour scheme as we fount it difficult to match the background to the colour scheme of the text, we then chose the black and white theme with a pink glow, the pink glow made the text stand out from the black background we had chosen for our magazine.

•We then chose to mess around with the colours to see which colour scheme we thought worked best with this style of writing. We also changed the features to create this style.
•This is our final chosen masthead, we all decided that these colours were the right colour scheme for magazine as the colours are neutral and is a unisex colour scheme. We also thought that the colour scheme went well with the features chosen

Rock magazine

•Q magazine is a magazine based for more rocky music, but can also feature some of the biggest artists around which means it may feature some pop, Q magazine also feature things such as old music that people may still listen to or be big after 20 years later. Q also use the same form of house colours as NME magazine, reds, blacks, reds and yellows, but i associate Q magazine to be for the target audience of the older generation, such as 25. On this front cover all the writing and some of the headlines are on the left hand side of the page, that is because when people read they look from left to right, so naturally it attracts more attention to the reader when you first look at it.

Indie magazine

•The front cover of this magazine has the main feature artists on the front page. the main headline of this magazine is the name of the band in very bold letters and then in smaller text just underneath the band name ‘the automatic’ of just an incite what the interview would be like inside. The picture of the band has taken up a lot of the front cover which means there is less room in the remaining areas to put in any other information about the inside but they have managed to feature the most important pieces of information about the magazine such as new music, what reviews are inside and other gossip to do with the music industry. The layouts they have used are very simple and the mast head stands out but not as much as the strap line.

Dance magazine

•Dance magazines are completely different form other magazines as rock, hip-hop and R’n’B. everything about them is about dance and they don’t feature anything that is not dance as other magazines do. The combination of only using 2 colours (red and orange)makes the magazine very simple and elegant. The colours are very contrasting. The poofs surround the whole image and the text is also very clear and bright. Everything on the cover blends in together.

R’n’B/hip- hop magazine

•Vibe magazine is a hip hop/R&B magazine, when I looked at it, it only features the latest news/gossip going around in the R’n’B/hip-hop industry. Their mast head stands out more but their images also takes over the whole magazine. The magazine on the right features the most famous R’n’B female star Beyonce. They have used 2 colours red and black through out. The poofs and the writing are very clear and also brightened in colour.

other magazines

•Blender is a magazines that don’t just talk about the music industry but also digs dip in the personal lives of those on the front cover.
its many colours are mainly red, yellow and black. their images takes over the whole page and the poofs only use little space and the rest just surround the whole image. the text is very simple and brightened in colour.

My magazine evaluation

•Colour – I think that the colours of my magazine are very bright and go together really well in some parts the writing does fade into the pink but overall the colours of my magazine look very well presented.
•Image – the image I chose was decided on what I had done for my puffs and because I wanted to do the broken machine in the gym i thought getting a picture of someone posing in front of it with the sign saying broke would go very well with the puffs.
•Text – I didn’t put much thought into my font and size of writing so I could have improved them a lot instead of it being boring and dull. The positions of the writing is good because they fit well around the picture.
•Photography – the picture I took looks like it was done by a professional because of the quality and angle of the picture.
•Audience – this magazine is aimed at teenage students of Frank F Harrison School so I think that the picture and colours I have chosen for my magazine are very appropriate for the age range.

Evaluation of Kristina's Magazine

On Kristina's front cover she has got a few faults but overall it seems quite good.
•Colours – the colours of her magazine are quite bright and go well with each other, but on some of her bubbles she has made the colour of them sort of cancels out the writing that goes over them.
•Image – the image she has got on her front cover looks really good because its is a large picture so it catches the readers eye and also she has inserted the image into a circle so that it looks more unique.
•Text – her choice in font for her front cover is a little bit plain and boring also the writing could have done with being a little bit bigger or bolder to make it stand out more to the reader. She has placed the writing around the picture and also the writing is talking about the picture so the way she has done this is very good. In her puffs she could have made them a little bit shorter so that they don’t give to much away to the reader and it would also make the writing fit better on the page.
•Photography – the picture she has took is very good quality, there is no blur around the image and you can see clearly what the picture is.
•Brand – Kristina's magazine is for Frank F Harrison school i know this because of the mast head and the logo in the top right hand corner.

Indie magazine

In an Indie magazine there are:
• A range of colours that go together well and are not over powering. The colours are bold and attract the eye of young adults.
•There is a photograph as the main image and this image is the main focus of the magazine. You can tell this as the image and the heading are the main focus as they are in the centre of the magazine.
•The masterhead creates a brand as the NME text and position never changes. This makes the brand because when you see this text you know It is an Indie magazine.
•The magazine is appropriate for its audience as it is aimed at young adults

Rap Magazine

In a rap magazine there are:
•There is a plain colour scheme for this magazine and there are only 3 main colours this makes the magazine easy to read and not to busy.
•They have used the image as it main focus of the magazine.
•The front cover also shows a lot of puffs telling you what will be inside the magazine and the other rap artists that will be included. They have placed the puffs around the image this makes it look very affective and you can see them clearly.
•The brand is set by the masterhead as it is bolder that the other writing and stands out from behind the image.

Pop Magazine

In this pop magazine there are;
•a lot of bright colours and would stand out to a young reader on a shelf in the shop.
•There are a lot of images to look at the main one being Troy and Vanessa from high school musical. As younger people are fans of High school musical this magazine it would sell well.
•The masterhead creates a brand as every time you see that type of text you automatically know it is a top of the pops magazine,
•The images and text are appropriate for the ,magazines target audience as they have allot of information aimed at younger people other than teenagers.

Dance music magazine

In a dance music magazine there are;
•There are bright colours which attract young readers
•The picture is of a girl in a swimming pool which makes you think that dance music is fun and exciting
•Inside this magazine you would expect to read things about singers, all the new dance music and see some photos of your favourite celebrities
•The title is in bright bold writing and has a funky looking font which also attracts the attention of teenage readers

R&B magazine

In a R&B magazine there are;
•This magazine has three main colours to keep it simple.
•It has one image as its main picture.
•The puffs are clear and easy to understand they tell you what will be mentioned inside the magazine.
•The mast head is clear and big so when it is in a shop people can find the magazine they are looking for easy.

Classical magazine

In a classical magazine there are;
•The colours are dull and grey.
•This magazine is less likely to attract younger people as it has dull colours and wouldn’t stand out in a shop unless you was looking for it.
•The picture wouldn’t attract teenagers as the picture is of an older man and it isn’t someone teenagers would recognise.
•A classical magazine would have information on things that had happened to the older singers or their would be information on the sort of instruments that the singers played.

Rock Magazine

In a rock magazine there are;
•Dark colours
•Information on rock bands
•Concert information
•A picture of a specific rock band on the front cover which looks very aggressive
•The mast head creates the brand because when you see the title Kerrang you know its about rock music
•This magazine is usually aimed at teenagers due to the language of the music in rock

Analyse

•Tarran’s front page has used contrasting colours and makes the front cover look professional, Another reason for the colour scheme she has chosen is that it is a unisex magazine so it suits boys and girls.
•The images she has used are high quality as she has blended them and has made the puffs stand out.
•She used different types of text styles for example the masthead she has used word art and made the text 3D. Also she has used a different font on the puff text so that it stands out, but could have used another colour and bigger text size so the audience are able to read it clearer. The placement of the text is excellent as she has placed them inside the stars which makes the writing stand out more clearly than if you put it outside.
•This magazine is appropriate to the audience as she has used school colours which is excellent as you that that it is a school magazine. Also she has created her own brand by using the school logo by her masthead.

Our Magazine

Our front page we have used contrasting colours and makes the front cover look professional the colours are based around our school colours. Also the colours we chose for our magazine are unisex colours so it will suit both genders. The main image has no heading to say what it is about and the smaller images are slightly irrelevant and need to be bigger. The text style we have used makes the magazine appealing also we have used contrasting colours with the text to make it match the other colours used. This magazine is appropriate to the audience as we have used school colours which is excellent so you know that it is a school magazine.

analysing

•When I looked at Taran’s magazine front cover, it wasn’t too feminine and it looked very natural. However the writing was too small and weren’t as colourful as the poofs were. The poofs really stood out more comparing to the writing. The images blended in together and the rest of the magazine was very good. I thought it was appropriate for everyone for it looked very bright and everything blended in together.

•Sam’s contents page was very out standing. The colours were the same as the front cover and they were very contrasting.

•Sean's front cover was made more out standing by the circles that filled almost half of the page. The mast head wasn’t very good because he made it fade away and the strap line looked more like a mast head because the text size was very big and also very colourful, which I thought should have applied to the masthead instead.

•When I looked at my own magazine front cover, I thought that it was really colourful and is very ideal for a school magazine. The image was positioned well even though it took almost half of the magazine. The text size and colour made the whole front cover stand out more. I don’t really think that I made a brand but I thought it looked very different from others. When it comes to the audience I thought it was appropriate for all ages and everyone who wants to read it. It really encourages pupils to make the best use of the library and I made the poofs very nice and simple in their own territory. The rest of the magazine is very simple and colourful.

•By looking at the magazines together I thought everybody’s was really good in so many different ways.

Evaluating My Front Cover

After looking at My magazine front cover I thought that overall it is a good magazine.
I think that the colour scheme is good as it looked professional and had only 3 colours this is good as it didn’t over power the magazine. The colours are very neutral and unisex, they are not just aimed at one sex.
The only down fall is that the puffs could be shorter as they are quiet long winded. Also the text in the puffs could have been in capitals so that they stand out from the stars. The Donate for shoes for Africa didn’t stand out as the foot prints are going through it, also the font could be changed so that the text is easier to read.
The text colours are relevant to the magazine as they are school colours and it is a school magazine.
The photography is relevant to my puffs as they match in terms of meaning, for example one of my photographs is of a year 11 pupil doing his art work and the puff relates to the image as it talks about an art fair year 11 art students will be attending.
I Feel that a brand was created as the font I used for my master head and placing the logo were I did if you saw that on an advert you would know that it is a school magazine as it stands out from the rest of the front cover.
I feel that this magazine is appropriate for its use as a school magazine. The magazine is aimed at the right aged audience as it is a secondary school magazine it has a professional feel to it.

Evaluating Samanthas Front Cover

When I viewed Samantha’s magazine cover I thought it was actually very effective for a school magazine.
The colour scheme was mainly towards female but had aspects of masculine features.
There aren’t many images on the front cover, there’s the logo of the school and the puff images behind the text which help to recognise the fact it’s a school magazine and the puffs help to make the text stand out against the red background of the puffs shape as the writing is white.
I think that the text of the cover is very good as it’s very clear and bold and easy to read which helps it to stand out and make the magazine catch the readers eye.
The photography of the cover I believe is actually quiet good but could do with tweaks to make it a lot better and more to stand out, or maybe sized and placed in a different position.
The cover is quite bland and could do with abit more colour but not over do it as it could look unprofessional and too in your face.
I think the cover is appropriate for the audience has it’s a school magazine and needs to be for all ages from the school and for the parents. It can be both for male and female from ages 11+ so its suitable for the secondary school.
The name of the magazine has sort of made the brand but it needs the logo of the school to be in ine with the master head to create the effect more efficiently and for the brand to be created.

Mock Up Contents

Here it shows how I have created a mock up of my contents page of the magazine I will be creating. I also did it in colour which is also shown above..

The name of the magazine has sort of made the brand but it needs the logo of the school to be in line with the master head to create the effect more efficiently and for the brand to be created.

My magazine evaluation.

•The writing could have stood out a lot more and I should have been adventurous about the style of writing and changed what it looked like.
•The picture I have put on my front cover I think looks really well because it stands out, it’s a good median shot, it catches the readers eye and it is in a circle so its not plain and boring.
•I think my date and price is very clear.
•My masthead doesn’t stand out as well as I expected because the headline stands out more I think.
•I think my logo goes well with the colours of my magazine.
•My picture is good because there is no blur in the picture and is clear to see what it is.

Evaluating Sean's magazine.

•The picture matches the theme because the picture is in a circle and the theme has little circles in pink and purple all around the page.
•Were the little circles over lap each other the writing which is over top of them doesn't stand out as well as it would if it was all on one colour.
•The masthead stands out but it looks a little weird how is slopes downwards.
•The picture matches the puffs as the picture is of a girl standing next to a broken machine and the puff is about the broken machine.
•The writing hasn’t changed he hasn’t been adventurous about the style of writing.
•He hasn’t used the colour scheme for both sex’s e.g.. Blue and pink. He has only used girly colours pink and purple as black doesn’t really have a side.
•Clear date and price.
